I received four GEFU food prep gadgets from Tryazon and had the opportunity to share them with my monthly scrapbooking group a few weeks ago. We craft, eat great food that is potluck, and talk about our lives and health so I thought this would be a great way to share GEFU, another way to eat healthy. I also received a copy of Wheat Belly by cardiologist William Davis to read and share that is not pictured in this review.
GEFU is based out of Eslohe, Germany. They made their first food mill in 1943 and specialize in high quality kitchen equipment. They strive to have products that are functional and beautiful.
The GEFU Spirelli Spiral Slicer creates Julienne strips of carrot and other firm vegetables. The spirals work well in stir-fries or veggie pasta dishes. To use, you turn the vegetable and feed at one end of the slicer. Each end creates a different size. One is 2×3 mm and other end creates 3.5×5 mm spirals). As the vegetable goes through, an included top can be used to create extra force and to protect fingers from the sharp blades.
I only had carrots to practice with and they were a bit tough to feed through. I am thinking zucchini may work better, but haven’t purchased any yet to try the spiral slicer with. Retail price of the Spirelli Spiral Slicer is $29.95 and is dishwasher proof.
The Julienne Peeler is a sharp and quick little gadget. Don’t get your fingers in the wrong place with this little guy! This peeler cuts strips effortlessly. It is labeled for all vegetables and is dishwasher proof. It has a retail price of $19.95.
The Julienne Peeler ASIA is for cutting juliennes and matchsticks from potatoes, cucumbers, carrots, courgettes, aubergines. The reverse side of the peeler is for grating ginger, apples, and nutmeg. It has a tough Japanese steel bade and handy hanging loop. I tried out the carrots on this gadget and it effortlessly sliced them. The suggested retail is $19.95 and I believe hand wash only.
The last product is the Lemon Juicer. This juicer is screwed into the lemon and then you simply squeeze out the amount you want to have. I tried two lemons and had some dripping around the outside of the juicer so not quite totally mess proof as labeled. This juicer can also be used on limes and oranges. It is made of stainless steel. The retail price of the GEFU Lemon Juicer is $12.95.
