Last April, I was honored to receive an individual artist grant in photography and worked to produce photographic pieces to share in central Minnesota. I may complain quite a bit about the cold here, but the state is filled with a lot of natural beauty to enjoy.
FramedArt.com allowed me to order a piece of photography artwork and review. I submitted the image above of a red rose for this piece.
I selected a 16″ x 24″ canvas print with a deep museum wrap. It was nice that the website showed how my image would like with the black band.
The print came via UPS in cardboard box. It was fastened securely to a cardboard insert with two plastic ties to hold it in place. That baby wasn’t going anywhere!
Here is the canvas print.
The canvas was nice and smooth in regard to tension. There was no bunching at the corners or laxity overall in the canvas.
The museum wrap method is to take the image to the edge of the surface with plain white canvas exposed on the sides. There are 18 custom colors to match or compliment the colors of the piece. This piece was done in black.
I had selected a 1.5″ deep bar option. I believe this is a measurement of the width and I got more like 1.25″.
The print was stapled well to the frame. It did not come with any mounting hardware so I hung it with a 3M Command hook.
Overall, I think the frame is sturdy and well-built. The packaging to ship the print was excellent.
The print to me and my spouse didn’t look quite as detailed as we thought it did from the JPEG I had while viewing it on my laptop and also by the website when previewing the canvas created. I would have to order another canvas print in the same size by a different company to truly compare apples to apples.
Since the image was done while I was practicing macro photography and blown up so much from the original size, it could have made a big difference in image quality alone, but I would have hoped the website would have sensed the decrease in clarity and alerted me if it was a problem. I was a little bummed that no mounting hardware was included with the print and the bar size was a bit different from what was stated on the website.
