Road trips are a part of the great American tradition. There are very few states (we won’t mention them) that don’t deserve a great drive through them. We’re going to take a look at why you ought to take a drive through Minnesota some day and what you have to look forward to.
Make the drive comfortable
The first part of any road trip (particularly this one) is the drive. The roads you’re on and being able to take a night on the side of one at any time is important. The travel trailer is my first choice for a road trip. Not only do you get to explore some of Minnesota’s most scenic roads, but to sleep with those views, too. We’re talking about the rugged shoreline of Highway 61 and the lakes of Gunflint Trail.
Get out into nature
It’s no good just being a passerby of great natural beauty, either. There are lots of opportunities to go ahead and get out into it, as well. Voyageurs is Minnesota’s only national park and it provides the state with just about all the natural beauty it could want. There’s Orr-Pelican Lake where you can enjoy a lovely fishing retreat. Tour boats and canoes can take you through the many lakes and explore the islands lying within them. If you’re not fond of live bait, the park is open all through the autumn as well. Then you can experience nature changing in a much grander view.
Unexpected histories
Road trips are about more than just the different kinds of landscapes you’re going to see, as well. Each state has a unique history and lots of stories within that. No matter how much you know about Minnesota, surprises will arise. One surprise in store is the Wabasha Street Caves and learning that St. Paul was once a safe haven for all kinds of criminals. Just as we have the great big statue to prove that Vikings once landed at Alexandria. That one might stretch belief for a few people, but it’s just an example of the curious tales you can hear on your journeys.
Top tier food
If you’re travelling anywhere, then you need to make it a whole sensory experience. Minnesotan cuisine might not sound exciting for locals, but once you’ve taken a foodie’s trip around, you will have a whole different viewpoint on the matter. The Juicy Lucy at Matt’s Bar is historically famous. Check out the Ultimate Checklist of Minnesota’s food when you have the time. It will definitely help you plan a few mouth-watering stops on the way.
Beautiful roads. Lovely towns. Gorgeous nature. Surprising history. Great food. Minnesota has it all, contrary to what some may believe. Hopefully, this article has inspired you to get out and take a look.
