I love using ribbon for scrapbooking and when I get the chance, card making.  When my daughter had her birthday party last month, I tested out the Epson LabelWorks Printable Ribbon Kit to personalize gift bags.  This device allows you to make ribbon one of a kind and personal.

The kit includes:

  • Ribbon printer LW-300
  • 2 satin ribbon cartridges for instant personalized ribbons (colors are beige ribbon with black text and navy ribbon with gold text)
  • Carrying case
  • User’s guide

The printer allows you to use a variety of 14 different fonts, 10 styles, 300+ symbols, and over 75 frames!  Simply print and cut your creations.  This device can store up to 30 of your favorite ribbon designs too.

6 AAA batteries are needed for this printer.  They are not included.

Here are the two included cartridge.  More ribbon colors are available for purchase.  The ribbon is 1/2″ wide and 15′ in length.

The ribbon cartridge sits in the underside of the printer.  It was easy to insert the cartridge and start feeding the ribbon through the machine.  The base cover then goes back on.

The Epson LabelWorks LW-300 printer can print up to two lines of text.  It accommodates tapes from 1/4″ to 1/2″ wide.  This device also works with sticky labels, glow-in-the-dark tape, and iron-on labels that are sold separately.

To use, power the unit on with the power button located in the upper left corner.  A folder is automatically created to store your design.  Label designs can be deleted too.  Then type in the fonts and elements you want to use.  As long as you haven’t hit the green printer button in the upper right corner, you can edit your creation.  A green lever on the side will cut the label when pressed.

Since I was creating ribbon to tie onto the gift bags at my daughter’s party, I wrote Thank You! and inserted a couple cute birthday cake symbols.  I printed one section and added some blank space before inserting the design again to tie the ribbon on itself around the bag handles.

The Epson LW-300 printer has a suggested retail price of $39.99 and select tapes are available at OfficeMax in stores and online for about $15.99 each, They can also be found at Amazon.com, and Staples.com.  The Epson LabelWorks Printable Ribbon Kit, including the LW-300 printer and two 1/2″ wide printable ribbon cartridges, has a suggested retail price of $69.99.  It can be purchased on Epson.com and Amazon.com.  The kit looks like it is currently unavailable with the possibility of future updates by e-mail, but the printer and ribbon are in stock and can be purchased separately.  The only disappoint I have had with the Epson LabelWorks Printable Ribbon Kit so far is not having the time to play with it more!

The printer and printable ribbon are made in Japan.  The carrying case is made in the U.S.A. and the kit is assembled in the U.S.  Check out this video with great ideas on how to use this label printer during the holidays located below.
