This past Saturday, I was given tickets courtesy of Allied THA to attend an advanced screening for the highly anticipated animated film, EPIC.
EPIC is from the creators of ICE AGE and RIO. It is a computer generated (CG) 3D movie. EPIC features the voices of Amanda Seyfried (Mary Katherine a.k.a. MK-the daughter), Colin Farrell (Ronin-leader of the Leafmen), Steven Tyler (Nim Galuu-caterpillar), Jason Sudeikis (Bomba-the dad), Pitbull (Bufo-a toad), Christopher Walz (Mandrake-leader of the Boggan army), Josh Hutcherson (Nod-Leafman undecided on his future), Beyoncé Knowles (Queen Tara), Aziz Anasari (Mub-a snail), and Chris O’Dowd (Grub-a slug).
This film has been rated PG for some scary images, brief rude language, and mild action. The production credits are to Twentieth Century Fox Animation and Blue Sky Entertainment. Runtime is 102 minutes.
In the story of EPIC, MK is forced to live with “Bomba”, her father who is infatuated with discovering a civilization of secret little people who keep nature alive with good always battling evil. The Boggans, the bad guys, create decay and try to destroy what is living and beautiful in nature.
Shortly after arriving at her father’s, MK goes off into the woods to search for her father’s elderly pug who has escaped out of the house. She then finds herself part of this secret world where she teams up with the Leafmen and goes on an incredible adventure in order to help save their world and essentially ours.
EPIC has vivid colors and amazing imagery – taking you to a mystical world. Imagine seeing hummingbirds flying up close and a parade over the water with the 3D effects – pretty cool! My husband and I liked the movie and my two-year-old son managed to stay seated for the entire feature. My four and six-year-old daughters thought a few parts were almost too scary to watch.
I was a little bit surprised with so many musical talents that there wasn’t more than one short song during the movie by Steven Tyler, but maybe that would have taken away from the seriousness of the storyline. EPIC takes you on adventure with thrills and even a bit of humor blended in for enjoyment to be taken in by the entire family.
To learn more about EPIC, visit the movie website, or check out their presence on Facebook and Twitter.
Disclosure: I received complimentary tickets for my family and I to view EPIC. The thoughts and feelings expressed are my own. No other compensation was received for this review.
