I am a big fan of the blog, The FrugalGirls.com, and had to try their recipe post for Homemade Cheez Its since I got through quite a bit of crackers with the kids. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy they were to make and also how tasty the end results were.
The recipe calls for a serrated fondant. I did not have one to cut the squares so I resorted to a pizza cutter. The squares were a mix of squares and rectangles, but a large amount of the double batch (the entire first 9×13 pan) went in the mouths of my children once they had cooled! I made some plain and some with Parmesan cheese sprinkled on them.
For the Cheez-Its:
- 2 Cups Sharp Cheddar, shredded.
- 3/4 Cup flour, plus more for dusting
- 4 tablespoons butter, softened and cut into 4 pieces (I used salted butter, but if you would like to use unsalted use 1 teaspoon salt instead)
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
- 1 tablespoon whole milk
