My girls, who are now seven and nine, will try to claim that they are not interested in princesses and some of the magic of Disney, but secretly they still love the characters. Here’s a unique way to show your love of Disney with crocheting some of your favorite characters. I am a self-taught crocheter so this has taken me a while, but I have been attempting the Disney Frozen Crochet and will soon tackle Disney Princess Crochet with my oldest daughter.
The Disney Frozen Crochet (ISBN: 978-1-62686-443-6) has a suggested retail of $24.95. This kit comes with the materials needed to create an Elsa and Anna. The kit includes 8 colors of yarn, crochet hook, stuffing, safety eye beads, 4 colors of embroidery floss, tulle, and a tapestry needle.
The instruction booklet has the patterns and instructions for all twelve characters. Step-by-step instructions are accompanied by full-color photos in a 76-page book. Additional materials are needed to create the other 10 characters.
Here are Anna and Elsa completed. They are about 5-6″ tall. The instruction book recommended to trim some of the hair for bangs, but I was afraid that the hair cap under the strands would show if I did some cutting. Maybe I was just misinterpreting what was written for the steps and it would have been fine.
Anna has a removable cloak and hat. Elsa has a tulle cape that is sewn on.
The pattern even included some cute details, like flowers on Anna’s dress.
Overall, this characters were fun to create. I would not recommend this kit for a beginner. I would love to see kits like this come out with an instruction book that is spiral bound. When working on the patterns, I would memorize a row or two and then the book would close shut. I would have to page through and find my spot again. My girls like playing with the dolls, I buy them the the best baby dolls for toddlers.
The Disney Princess Crochet (ISBN:978-1-62686-444-3) also has a suggested retail of $24.95. The kit features Cinderella and Ariel.
This kit comes with a full-color, 76 page instruction book to create 11 amigurumi Disney Princesses – Ariel, Cinderella, Belle, Aurora, Jasmine, Tiana, Rapunzel, Mulan, Snow White, Pocahontas, and Merida. It also includes the instructions to create Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother.
Additional materials are needed to create the characters featured in the instruction book beyond Ariel and Cinderella. 9 colors of yarn, a crochet hook, stuffing, safety eyes beads, red embroidery floss, and a tapestry needle are provided.
