Dickey’s Barbecue Pit Whole Meat Review and Giveaway

Dickey's Barbecue Pit
Dickey’s Barbecue Pit St. Cloud

Last weekend, I made my first trip to Dickey’s Barbecue Pit to sample their new whole meats.  The whole meat option at Dickey’s began this past July.  Dickey’s can smoke the meats for the holidays or a  family gathering and you get the praise.

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit was established in Dallas, Texas, by Travis Dickey in 1941.  This business takes pleasure in creating authenticity, innovation, and barbecue sauce.

In 1967, Travis Dickey’s two sons took over the business and expanded it to the Dallas/Fort Worth area.  Franchising options began in 1994.  As the business continues to expand, customers have more opportunity to experience their home-style flavor and family friendly atmosphere.

To try a whole meat, it is recommended that you give Dickey’s a 24 hour notice to guarantee that your choice will be available because they can sell out from time to time.  Dickey’s slow smokes the meats on-site.  I am grateful that the St. Cloud location was able to fill my order with notice the same day.

The whole meats choices are:

  • Whole Beef Brisket (8-10 lb.) – slow smoked over hickory and rubbed with Dickey’s Old Barbecue Rub
  • Whole Turkey Breast (6-8 lb.) – a tender and juicy turkey breast, slow smoked to perfection
  • Whole Barbecue Honey Ham (5-6.5 lb.) – a tender, juicy, hickory smoked ham, then glazed with Dickey’s delectable honey barbecue sauce
  • Whole Southern Pulled Pork Butt (4-5 lb.) – slow smoked and rubbed with Dickey’s Rib Rub to create a juicy smoky flavor
  • Old Recipe Polish Sausage Loop (1 lb.) – a family recipe of choice meats and special spice
  • Spicy Cheddar Sausage Loop (1 lb.) – a blend of choice meats with sharp cheddar cheese and a hint of jalapeno for a signature bite.  This was the first menu change in 50 years.  It was created as a limited-time option when it debuted in 2011.  Awesome reviews have kept it as permanent addition.

I selected the Whole Southern Pulled Pork Butt to sample.

The pork butt came in a foil pan with lid and was wrapped in cellophane.  It took me an hour to drive home and it was still quite warm.

And the unveiling…

Oh my goodness!  The pork butt was so moist and tender.  It had a pleasant hint of smoky flavor and was not overly salty.  Delicious!  I am kicking my own butt for not ordering other things to try from Dickey’s when I stopped by.

Here is some great news for readers.  One reader will one a voucher for their choice of a whole meat to try from Dickey’s Barbecue Pit.  Dickey’s has over 280 locations in 43 states.  If you have not tried Dickey’s before, please make sure their is a site within driving distance before entering.  You can find store locations here.  This contest is open to residents of the U.S. and you must be 18 or older to enter.  Please enter below via Rafflecopter and good luck!
