A few weeks ago, my daughter celebrated her ninth birthday with a few friends. I was very fortunate to have supplies arrive from DecoArt’s Social Artworking® Junior in order to have a canvas painting party. Social Artworking® is a fun and rewarding way to enjoy a night out (or in) with friends and family.
When visiting the Social Artworking website, you can view a wide array of designs. After a design has been selected, all of the supplies are populated on your screen to complete the canvas print as an individual or group.
The Junior version is tailored for kids. It features kid-friendly designs, smaller canvases, and a shorter time needed for completion. My daughter selected Neon Peace. This design is to take about an hour to complete.
A 5-pack brush set was included for each participant. Two brushes included in the set are used for this design.
A pattern for each canvas was included. The pattern is reusable.
The five paint colors were neon blue, neon pink, neon red, neon yellow, and violet.
The canvases for the Junior designs are 12″ x 12″. The grey transfer paper (pictured below) is used to transfer the pattern onto the canvas.
The shiny side of the transfer sheet goes down toward the canvas and then the pattern is placed on top and taped on one side so it doesn’t slide around.
With the pattern on top of the grey transfer paper, tracing the pattern should be done with a pen or pencil. I used a pencil and did not have to press down very hard for the pattern to develop onto the canvas.
I was wondering how all these cute wine and canvas parties from friends were showing up on my Facebook feed and managed to have their prints all look so similar. But later, it hit me that high quality, custom acrylic prints aren’t hard to procure on the internet. Now I know!
Then the canvases can be placed on the easels. They are adjustable to accommodate different canvas sizes.
The girls were eager to start. I had some plastic cups lying around to dispense paint to each of them as their designs progressed.
The girls started with coloring in the peace sign. Detailed color step-by-step instructions were included to keep things moving smoothly.
Then it was to paint inside the spaces of the peace sign. Next they had turn their brushes on their sides and paint side-to-side all the way around the peace sign. This method was continued out to the edges of the canvas with the assortment of colors. A few colors were made by mixing two of the original five colors.
At the end of the night, the girls were able to each take home a canvas print.
DecoArt Social Artworking® Junior is a healthy and fun way to express creativity alone or as a group. Once the pattern has been selected, the items needed for the project are suggested based on how many are participating. You have the freedom to pick and choose which items you would like to order.
My birthday girl and guests seemed to have a great time. They were done in about 45 minutes and we did this as our first activity so they would be mostly dry by the time the went home a few hours later.
