dBs Headphones Review

I received a pair of headphones by dBs (Direct Beat Systems) a few weeks ago to test and try.  They have the ability to be used either wirelessly and connected via Bluetooth or to be corded.

Inside the packaging is the dBs headphones, a mini USB charger, and a 3.5 mm cable.  There isn’t much for instructions, but general use is pretty self-exclamatory outside of the exact definition for the different lights visible on the headphones when charging, pairing, and so forth.

Once out of the package, simple unfold the headphones.

There are buttons for track forward and track back that are also used for volume control.

Here is the button for answering calls.  My spouse has been trying out the dBs headphones and said the other parties have ended the calls, but we assume this button would also disconnect the call.  There is nothing written with the product on button functions so hopefully the pictures give you enough clues for use.

The on/off switch is kind of in an awkward location.  It’s inside and on top of the right ear piece.  It would be more convenient on the bottom of the ear piece.  There is an “L” and “R” underneath the headband to label the left and right ear pieces.

Here is the mini USB port for charging.  The product box says to charge approximately 3 hours.  The packaging did not specifically say to do this, but I think it is pretty standard to charge before using for the first time.

The speaker is located on the one ear piece.

Final Thoughts on dBs Headphones:

Pros:

  • Clear sound quality
  • Can be used with Bluetooth enabled smartphones, tablets and computers or can be corded to be used with non-Bluetooth devices
  • Battery life is fair
  • Lightweight in design
  • Easy to pair with Bluetooth enabled devices
  • Sound quality with microphone is very good
  • Talk time and stream time – up to 15 hours
  • Standby time – up to 250 hours
  • Operating distance – up to 30 feet

Cons:

  • More pressure noted on bottom of ear and it seemed loose on top of ear cups due to overall design or lack of pivoting cups.  The affected the comfort level of wear and noise cancelling ability
  • On/off switch a bit awkward in location
  • Lack of written instructions

Overall, the dBs headphones are nice and clear and are a good value with the current price tag of $39.99 on Amazon.com for the black and white models.  There a few design issues that could be tweaked to make the product nearly perfect and a set of instructions would be nice to have with this product.
