Title:  Days Like These: Even in the Darkest Moments, Light Can Shine Through

Author:  Kristian and Rachel Anderson

ISBN:  978-0-310-32583-3

Suggested Retail:  $19.99

Review:  You might be familiar with Kristian Anderson by viewing his beautiful YouTube video that went viral and was originally created as a gift for his wife’s 35th birthday.  You may have seen his appearance on Oprah too.

Days Like These is primarily a compilation of Kristian’s blog entries with also a few entries written by his wife, Rachel.  I learned of Kristian for the first time by reading this book.

This story carries an emotional journey with it.  It starts with Kristian describing his illness, stage 4 bowel cancer and concern of metasis to his liver at age 34.  Kristian shares his courageous journey and unbreakable faith in God and in essence, inspires the world with his story.

Days Like These is heartfelt and touching.  If you are like me, brought to tears by reading this incredible story.  I found this book very relatable – my spouse and I in our there 30’s and have young children, the same as Kristian and Rachel.

This book contains some great scriptures and wonderful quotes by Kristian like this one from his final blog post:

“There is a crack in everything.  That’s how the light gets in…The truth being we’re all broken, we’re all cracked and what so many people see as a fault or a malfunction really is something to be considered useful.”

Kristian fights a courageous battle with his cancer, but unfortunately, his battle was lost in 2012.  This is an inspiring and emotion filled story on living life wholeheartedly.  We are not defined by our jobs or our material things, but by who loves us and who we show love to.

The only minute thing I wish was different in this book is showing all of the entries dated, like on a blog, just to make it a little easier to follow chronologically.

Disclosure:  I received Days Like These as part of the blogger program with BookSneeze.com in return for an honest review.  No other compensation was received.
