On Sunday, my family and I had the opportunity to participate in this fun opportunity – attending Thomas and Friends Day Out With Thomas. This was held at the North Shore Scenic Railroad, which is owned and operated by the Lake Superior Railroad Museum in Duluth, MN. This event will also take place on August 9-11, 2013. Let me share our day with you.
There was free weekend parking by the museum. When we got out of the vehicle, this was our view.
This sign was in front of the building. There was a yellow paint trail leading us to the back of the building.
When we arrived behind the building, we were immediately greeted by the hustle and bustle of other patrons, food vendors, and free music by Mr. Billy.
If you have ordered your tickets online and are told to go to will call, or need to buy tickets the day of, there is a ticket office on-site. There are also many tables of fun for the children in this area.
With the price of admission for the event, entrance to the train museum is included. A few items are under open sky.
A large toy train set is enclosed with moving pieces for children to enjoy at the museum.
There is also miniature golf, toy train sets, and chalk tables for children to play on/with too.
Some of the pieces from history…
It’s fun to learn about the history of the railroad. I thought it was very interesting to see how they would battle a heavy snowfall on the tracks. Look at this rotary plow. It’s enormous!
Be sure to pick up an event guide when you are there. There is a site map and it includes the activities schedule. There are magic shows (magician pictured below), storytelling and Sir Topham Hatt is there too.
There are a bunch of fun activities outside too.
Pasta necklace, anyone?
Or how about playing in all of these bubbles?
And Thomas!
There is a 25 minute train ride included. We road in a double-decker car.
Pretty scenery while out on the ride…
We were a Day Out With Thomas for about five hours and didn’t get to do everything since there is so much to do there. Our youngest still takes naps most days so he was getting wore out at the end. My husband and I had been to the museum quite a few years before and the additions for a Day Out With Thomas added a lot of special touches to entertain and engage young children.
