Unfortunately, my family dealt with a nasty GI bug for over a week and were finally on the mend when it was National Vodka Day, October 5th. Danielle, whom I had been communicating with, was very thoughtful and sent me samples of Cupcake Vodka Original and Cupcake Vodka Frosting to celebrate my recovery.
The Cupcake brand launched Cupcake Vineyards in 2008 with its first three wines from Central California and have grown to 14 different varieties. The winemaker behind Cupcake Vineyards has also created a tasty spirit – Cupcake Vodka.
Cupcake Vodka is handcrafted with American grain and the fresh California Sierra Nevada water. It is distilled six times to remove any impurities. The last step is charcoal filtration.
Cupcake currently has six flavors of their signature vodka in these pretty sapphire blue bottles: Chiffon, Frosting, Original, Devil’s Food, and Gingersnap. Verry Berry and Gingersnap were just released Jan. 2012.
I tried the Cupcake Vodka Frosting first by itself. It had been chilled and had a mild burning to the back of the throat. Cupcake Frosting is vanilla flavored with a soft texture. A very fine hint of citrus (lemon?) also comes through in the flavor. I mixed it in with just pineapple juice and was impressed by how smooth it was. I had read through the cocktail recipes on the Cupcake Vodka website afterward and saw it mixed with root beer soda. Doesn’t that sound fun and refreshing? When I try this flavor again, I’d like to experiment with vanilla ice cream and make it a creamy dessert drink. Cupcake Vodka Frosting is 70 proof.
I tried Cupcake Vodka Original the day after, also chilled. I thought the taste was very clean and crisp when solo. I then mixed it with orange juice. That was pretty tasty. Cupcake Vodka Original is 80 proof. The suggested retail for Cupcake Vodka is $17.99 for 750 ml.
