With the holiday season around us, it seems like more rich and indulgent foods are readily available. It’s good to keep convenient and healthy foods nearby to prevent overindulging in all of those temptations. We have been sampling the flavors of Crunchies in place of some of the sugary treats.
What are Crunchies? As their tagline states, it’s “Pure Fruit in Every Crunch”. Their fruits are freeze-dried so they are crisp and naturally sweetened.
The freeze-drying method used by Crunchies ensures that fresh fruit retains its nutritional value while enhancing shelf life – and creating that satisfying crunch. After harvesting, fresh fruits are promptly frozen and undergo a low-pressure drying process in which frozen water is removed directly as steam, bypassing the liquid state. As a result, Crunchies products retain most of the nutrients of fresh, whole fruit, making them a smart food choice for consumer of all ages. Plus, each serving of Crunchies is only around 40 calories.
Crunchies Cinnamon Apple is simply freeze-dried apples with cinnamon. They are sweet and crisp with a refreshing hint of cinnamon. I have had dried apples before as probably most of you have had and they are often chewy. Being freeze-dried, the apple slices were crunchy and not leathery. The taste leave you in disbelief that there is no added sugar.
Crunchies Raspberries have a rewarding flavor with a bit of tart zing. My children had the Cinnamon Apple shortly before tasting this fruit and had assumed the sweetness would be the same in the raspberry. Their taste buds were in for a bit of a shocker until they were acclimated to the difference! Pucker power!
Crunchies Mixed Fruit includes a nice medley of bananas, strawberries, blueberries, and apples that are sweet and refreshing.
Crunchies Strawberry Banana is also sweet and flavorful.
With its commitment to responsible sourcing and trace-ability, Crunchies is the only U.S. consumer freeze-dry brand that is vertically integrated farm to fork. Crunchies was founded in 2004 and is the only company that maintains most of their freeze drying operations within the U.S.
Crunchies are available in single-serve packs and larger grab-n-go resealable pouches. They do not contain added sugar, artifical flavors, or coloring. They are also non-GMO, gluten-free, vegan, kosher, and halal certified.
The Crunchies product line currently includes strawberries, mango, pineapple, blueberries, raspberries, grapes, cinnamon apple, strawberry banana, and mixed fruit. Their products are available at stores nationwide and have a suggested retail price of $4.99-5.99 for the resealable pouches and $1.25 for single-serve bags.
The freeze-dried fruits can be eaten by themselves or used in recipes. Be sure to reseal the bag if you do not eat all of the product in one sitting. They will get chewy if left out for very long after and exposed to air. For more information and to purchase through the company’s website, please visit CrunchiesFood.com.
