Celsius Review

September 8, 2012 by Karen

Recently I had the opportunity to sample some of the flavors of Celsius.  I’d like to first provide you with some information on this product and then my thoughts.
Celsius is an energy drink that is to boost metabolism, reduce body fat, increase endurance, and provide energy.  It is to help you burn up to 100 calories and more per serving when combined with exercise.
Celsius is powered by a formula that is trademarked called MetaPlus.  Some of the ingredients are: Green Tea with EGCG, Ginger, Calcium, Chromium, Caffeine, Guarana, Biotin, and Vitamins B and C.
This product comes in seven flavors, some of which are carbonated and others are not.  Celsius is packaged in a 12 oz. can and comes in the following flavors:

  • Sparkling – Orange, Cola, and Wild Berry
  • Non-Carbonated – Green Tea Raspberry Acai, Lemon Iced Tea, Strawberry-Kiwi, Outrageous Orange
  • Apple Orchard Blend naturally sweetened
There is no sugar, high fructose corn syrup, aspartame, nor artificial preservatives, flavors, or colors.  Celsius also comes in “On-The-Go” stick packets, which are simply mixed with water before consuming.
I was sent Celsius in Sparkling Orange, Outrageous Orange, Strawberry-Kiwi, Lemon Iced Tea, Sparkling Wild Berry, and Apple Orchard Blend.  Unfortunately, the Apple Orchard Blend suffered a casualty during delivery from UPS so I can not speak about the flavor.  Out of the five I did sample, Lemon Iced Tea was my personal favorite.
The overall taste of Celsius is slightly less sweet than some of the other energy drinks I have tried in the past.  Six of the Celsius flavors are sweetened with sucralose. The Apple Orchard Blend is sweetened with a stevia and erythritol blend.
These slim 12 oz. cans do tote a hefty 200 mg of caffeine per serving (1 serving is a full can).  I don’t know if it is just because I don’t consume caffeine on a regular basis, but I did feel a little jittery from this product.  I took the first can at 1 p.m. on an afternoon and maybe this was due to other reasons, but I had a hard time falling asleep until 1 a.m. that night!  I tried Celsius after that in the mid to late morning and could then wind down at a regular bedtime, around 10:30-11.  I feel that Celsius did up my energy level.
It is recommended that you do not consume more than 3 cans or stick packets of Celsius per day because of the caffeine, which is similar to drinking two 8 oz. cups of coffee.
*Celsius is not recommended for people sensitive to caffeine, children under the age of 12, or women who are pregnant or nursing.
