About This Book:
Review:
Freezer meals have always been a topic that I wanted to tackle with cooking. I wish I would have done them when I was still pregnant and before we would come home with a new baby. Or how about an easy gift for a new neighbor or friend who has recently made it home with a new baby? I think these recipes could even be great for gift giving during the holidays.
The Complete Idiot’s Guide To Easy Freezer Meals is broken into five parts for easy referencing. The sections are: Freezer Cooking Essentials, From-the-Freezer Morning Meals, Lunches, Appetizers, and Snacks, What’s for Dinner, and Sweet Endings. This book has tip sections like others in the Complete Idiot’s Guide series.
I like that this book does not seem to have a list of extravagant ingredients to make what sound like some great options. For example, make your own mozzarella sticks and then follow the recipe in another chapter for your own marinera sauce to go with it.
I could see myself using a majority of the recipes in this book. The only thing that throws me off a little is that I personally almost always rely on a pan/dish size to put the completed item in. I did the baked macaroni and cheese and it said that it would yield 9 cups, “spray baking dishes to meet your portion needs with cooking spray”. I doubled the recipe to have one to freeze and make that night. A regular take on the recipe and doubled went into two 11×13 pans! Yielding in cups is a little foreign to me. Not all recipes are like this, most do specify a size of baking dish.
Here is a pan of the baked macaroni and cheese. I was out of extra sharp cheddar and used a cheese blend. I thought it was pretty good and easy to assemble.
Overall, the recipes sounds yummy and this book includes a log of great tips to save time and money. I can’t wait to use up the space left in our freezer with more of The Complete Idiot’s Guide To Easy Freezer Meals.
