Title:  Bible Detective

Illustrated by Peter Kent

Suggested Retail:  $14.99

Recommended for ages 7 and above

My six-year-old loves picture puzzle books, like Where’s Waldo and I SPY.  Now there is a book about stories from the Bible that fits into this genre, Bible Detective.

This book has a new story with different layout covering every two pages.  They contain a scene to search and then images and information are printed on the two page’s outer borders for children to seek and find.  There is also a “wily fox” to search for in every scene.

This book is tailored to help visual learners and reluctant readers, while teaching some of the Bible’s history and contents.  I think the illustrations are great at capturing young readers, even those under the suggested age of 7.

If you become completely stumped, there is an answer key for each scene located at the back of the book.  Some of the items to find do not look exactly like the images to find on the borders, like the image for finding two of Noah’s daughters-in-law doing laundry has one image of a woman kneeling with laundry on the border and in the scene, the same woman is standing with cloth and then the other not pictured on the border happens to be right next to her in the story “Noah, the Good Herdsman”.
I feel Bible Detective provides a great form of media to learn about the Bible and yet allows a child to seek and explore through intricate illustrations.  There are 17 different two page stories in this book for your child to play detective with.

Disclosure:  I received a copy of Bible Detective for this review through Kregel Publications.  No other compensation was received.  The thoughts and feelings expressed are my own.
