I was hoping to see Bad Moms in theatres this summer but missed out on the chance. Thankfully Universal Pictures Home Entertainment gave me the opportunity to review this film from the comfort of my own home.
Bad Moms features Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn, Christina Applegate, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Anni Mumolo. It was written and directed by Jon Jucas and Scott Moore (The Hangover Trilogy, Four Christmases) and produced by Suzanne Todd (Alice Through the Looking Glass) and Bill Block (Dirty Grandpa).
I watched Bad Moms with my spouse and we were both shared many laughs. I thought this would be just a chick flick, but I think other guys would get laughs from this film too. I can definitely find at least some of the storyline relatable to moms in real life. Bad Moms is rated R and does have some raunchy humor.
Amy (Kunis) has two kids with busy extracurricular schedules, a dog, a job, and a perfect marriage, or so she thinks. She’s part-time, but working like she’s full-time with a crew of colleagues who are all younger than her and take advantage of her over-achiever personality. Amy also volunteers with the local PTA, runs all over to get the kids to their after school activities, does all or most of the shopping for her family, and I am assuming cooking most of the meals for the family. She’s stressed and pushed to the max!
The PTA president, Gwendolyn (Christina Applegate), rolls out rules for the next PTA bake sale with the order to omit all artificial ingredients and some real ingredients, like butter, to be used in the baked goods. Around the same time, Amy discovers that her marriage is past the point of repair. These are the straws that break the camel’s back.
Amy calls it quits and befriends two unique girlfriends, Carla (Hahn) and Kiki (Bell). They also have their hands full and feel the stress from their commitments. These three gals join forces on a self-indulging, liberating, and fun adventure. This causes them to ruffle some feathers with Gwendolyn and so she strikes back on Amy’s kids. This means war!
