Active Kids are Happy Kids with P&G {Plus Giveaway}

August 17, 2015 by Karen

As the kids head back to school, more time is spent behind the desk and usually less time is available for physical activity. P&G wants to see kids continue to get active and happy.

They have partnered with LeapFrog who makes the LeapBand, a way to help your child stay on the move.  This device is recommended for children ages 4-7.  Your child can care for virtual pets, participate in mini games, and to do 10 second activities for virtual rewards.

A USB cord is provided to connect your LeapBand to a PC so you can sync data, adjust parental controls, or install extra activities.

The LeapBand has a companion app, too, called Petathlon, that has the virtual pets competing in extra mini-games. It runs on iOS, Android, and Leapfrog’s own LeapPad Ultra tablet. It syncs activity data and the virtual pet via the PC app, and unlocks extras to import back on the band.

The LeapFrog Leap Band is controlled by buttons on the device and not by a touch screen.  It is water resistant and rechargeable.

“Leap up and roar like a tiger”

Until the snow flies, we like to go for walks and bike rides after school as other ways to stay active.  You never know what you might discover when you are out with nature.

We also enjoy time on the local lakes as a family.

We try to eat healthy and I am still trying to incorporate more beans into our diet as a lean healthy protein.  One idea I have found that my kids like is snacking on garbanzo beans

Those pictured below are made with two cans of garbanzo beans that are drained and patted dry with paper towels.  They are then coated with a mixture of 1 Tbsp. olive oil, 1/4 tsp. cumin, 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper, 1/4 tsp. garlic powder, and salt to taste.  They can be toasted in a skilled or spread flat on a baking sheet at 400 degrees for about 25 minutes.  They should be tossed every 10 minutes when in the oven.  There are many other yummy variations of chickpeas to enjoy as a healthy snack.

We raise a big garden during the summer months to try and stock our table and freezer with fresh vegetables to enjoy throughout the year.  The fresh flavors can’t be matched and my children like learning where there food comes from.
