Snowflake the White Gorilla DVD Review and Giveaway

March 8, 2014 by Karen

_SNOWFLAKE OCARD
Snowflake the White Gorilla became available on DVD and Video on Demand a few days ago, March 4, 2014, and became available on Digital HD on February 18th.  I was allowed to review  a copy from Lionsgate Home Entertainment and they have kindly provided a copy to giveaway.

This movie features the voices of David Spade (Grown Ups), Jennette McCurdy (TV’s “Sam & Cat”), Ariana Grande (TV’s “Victorious”), Nathan Kress (TV’s “iCarly”), Keith David (The Princess and the Frog), Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future franchise) and introducing Dallas Lovato (The Helpers).  Snowflake the White Gorilla has been awarded the DOVE Seal of Approval.

Snowflake’s parents were killed by hunters and so she was fostered by a zoologist and his family.  While in their care, Snowflake (Ariana Grande) develops a strong bond with their daughter, Wendy (Dallas Lovato).  When she is old enough to be on her own, Snowflake is then brought to the Barcelona Zoo.

Snowflake is a hit with the visitors at the zoo, but has a hard time being accepted as a gorilla among her own kind due to her difference in color.  She longs to fit in.

After being at the zoo for a while, Snowflake manages to befriend Jenga (David Spade), a unique red panda.  They sneak out of the zoo together in search of a witch traveling through town with the circus.  The witch can help Snowflake become “normal”, changing her fur from white to black.  They have to face some danger along the way with Mr. Archibald (Christopher Lloyd), who has learned that a white gorilla’s heart supposedly provides eternal youth.

Snowflake the White Gorilla features computer animated characters with human characters.  I had questioned if something was wrong with my DVD player when viewing this movie at first, but with going through other remarks, the dubbing is a bit off in this movie so the speaking does not go completely with the moving of lips.  It bugged me a bit, but my children did not seem to mind.  I believe the movie was filmed in Spain and then dubbed for English.

My kids thought this movie was cute and it does share a few important life lessons too, like how it is good that we are all unique and that you should not be quick to judge others just because they are different than you.  This movie is rated PG.  There is a girl giving a boy a kiss, and some thematic elements that remind me of Home Alone, like being hit with a frying pan.
