If you are looking to add some last-minute fun to the Christmas tree, Hang’em and Hatch’em Eggs may fit the bill. They are eggs that “hatch” to reveal a toy. This product is recommended for children 3 and above.
In each package, you will receive three colored eggs. They have a string at the base so you can hang them from the tree like an ornament. There is a single hole at the top of the egg and then two holes at the base where the hanging string is located.
To use Hang’em and Hatch’em Eggs, simply remove from the packaging and place the eggs in room temperature water. The level of water should just cover the egg. It doesn’t say to do this, but I held them down to get the air out from under the egg shells. Let them sit in the water and the next day (within 24 hours) you should see cracks start to form on the shell.
My children wanted to help their little friends out so they started picking at the shells. We left the eggs in water for a total of three days, changing the water each day. They were a little slippery, but not slimy. There is material in the eggs that allows the toy to grow and contributes the slippery feel. Just grab the toy and remaining egg shell carefully. Rinse them off with room temperature water. Then lightly pat the animal dry.
The little friends feel like a hard rubber when they have dried. I thought the strings stayed with the animals, but they are just to hang the eggs initially on the tree. The animals can then be played with.
Each set comes with a polar bear, snowman, and baby penguin. I think the longer you keep the animals in water, which helps them get bigger, there can be a tendency for the colored areas to lighten up and fade.
Hang’em and Hatch’em Eggs can be hung from the tree and then hatched out when the tree comes down for fun at the end of the holiday season. They are made in China and retail for $11.95 for the box of three eggs. This product can be purchased on Amazon.com or directly from the company website (SCS Direct, Inc.).
