With Halloween approaching, parents face a nutritional challenge…candy, candy and more candy. One way to get a sweet but nutritious treat into the hands of our little ghouls and goblins is single serving cartons of shelf safe flavored milk.
It’s real Grade A milk, packaged in milk boxes that don’t need refrigeration until they are opened (like juice boxes). Available in chocolate, strawberry, vanilla and white chocolate, kids love it, and an 8 oz. carton provides 9 grams of protein and 15 other essential vitamins and minerals.
The milk used is flash-heated and ultra pasteurized to eliminate bacteria and then placed in Tetra Pak shelf safe cartons. These little cartons protect the milk from air, light, and other contaminants. It is safe on the shelf without preservatives. The milk can be frozen or chilled in these eco-friendly cartons and added to lunch boxes, picnic baskets, diaper bags, beach coolers, or sports bags. The idea of shelf safe milk has been around since the 1960s!
What makes Milk Unleashed eco-friendly? Shelf safe milk does not need refrigeration for distribution or storage, which uses less energy. Stores have less frequent deliveries and so fewer trucks are on the road and reduces CO2 emissions. The cartons are made from 70% paper from selectively harvested, regrown trees and are recyclable.
My family and I sampled Milk Unleashed with the products used in this post. The flavors were great and the containers were very convenient to store and then refrigerate before using. The only thing my kids had trouble with was the straws. They need to be telescoped out and if not firmly put in place, the inner part would slip back inside and be lost in the container. I would have preferred straws with a flexible neck that could be fastened to the front of the box with the one end tucked down and then not to worry about telescoping the straw. Otherwise, my kids fought over the flavored boxes of milk and thoroughly enjoyed them.
And… Chocolate Milk is the Official Beverage of Halloween. So parents can feel good about dropping one of these into a trick-or-treat bag!
