“We are proud to introduce Kids in the Kitchen Cookbook to families to promote cooking together and healthy living,” said Bob Der, Editorial Director, TIME For Kids. “This book furthers our goal of enabling and educating kids as they continue to clamor to help in the kitchen and want to learn more about food and where it comes from.”
Review: It’s important to have kids in the kitchen. They learn important techniques, some science and math, and I think usually eat a meal better if they are part of the performance in bringing something to the table.
Kids in the Kitchen Cookbook is geared for children 8 and above. I love all of the colorful photographs and images included in this book. I think this helps spur the interest in children. Here is an image of the Home -Baked Chicken Fingers that my daughter and I made from the cookbook a few days ago. The breading on ours doesn’t look as even as it does in the book, but we still enjoyed them in our meal with brown rice and kale.
This book has sidebars that share food facts, cooking trivia and history, tips for healthier eating, and essential terms for new cooks. There is also a “From TIME for Kids” on the other sidebar that has little known facts, fun stats, and mini articles from issues of TIME for Kids magazine and TFK Around the World. So if your child is looking for a book to page through, they can learn quite a bit from the additional information printed on the sidebars. The recipes in this book are also rated on difficulty – simple, moderately easy, or difficult to prepare and nutritional information is easy to read.
I think Kids in the Kitchen Cookbook is great for young cooks/chefs. My oldest is six and loves flipping through this book and helping when she can in the kitchen. Our next project together from this cookbook is Easy and Perfect Vanilla Pudding. It looks delicious!
