I had purchased other LeapFrog videos in the past for my children to view, but those that I have feature Tad. I was sent LeapFrog: The Complete Scout and Friends Collection to review. This title was released on DVD on July 16, 2013 by LeapFrog Enterprises, Inc. and Lionsgate Home Entertainment.
LeapFrog’s new set has a suggested retail of $29.98 and is a four DVD set. The run time is approximately 140 minutes. The four DVDs are stacked on a single plastic post with a foam pad to position on top of the stack. In order to remove the DVDs, simply unsnap from the plastic. If you don’t need the top DVD, you do have to remove one or multiple DVDs on top of it. I would have preferred it to be a little easier to get to all of the DVDs with maybe hinged holders in the case so you can get to each DVD individually.
This set is to teach early reading and math skills, like word building, the alphabet, recognizing numbers, and more. The collection includes the following:
- Adventures in Shapeville Park – Early Math Skills: shapes, size comparison, measurement. Run time of 35 minutes
- The Magnificent Museum of Opposite Words – Early Reading Skills: opposite words, synonyms, word building. Run time of 35 minutes
- Numberland – Math Skills: number recognitions, counting, skip counting. Run time of 36 minutes
- Phonics Farm – Early Reading Skills: the alphabet, phonics skills, animals. Run time of 38 minutes
- There are also some bonus sing-a-longs and story books too
This set is recommended for children 2-5 years of age. The DVDs are in widescreen format with Dolby Digital 2.0. These titles were originally released in 2011/2012 and released this year in this fun and educational collection.
My youngest two and I have been watching Scout, Violet, Penny, and Eli on their adventures. They have thoroughly enjoyed this set. It’s fun to watch them interacting with the characters and learning some important basics. My only complaint is the style of DVD case for this collection.
