This review opportunity was sort of unique. I got to involve my spouse with trying Somersets Grooming for Men products. If you have a guy in your life who shaves, please keep reading.
Somersets Grooming for Mens is a line of shaving oils, shaving gels, and pre- and after-shave products. Somerset was founded in 1991 and is headquartered in Henley-on-Thames, England. Their line of products is formulated with a harmonious blend of organic essential oil like lavender, tea tree, and rosemary. There aren’t any chemicals that can harm the skin or environment in Somersets.
Somersets Pre-Shave Purifying Face Scrub has organic Jojoba beads and chamomile oil to gently exfoliate and remove dead, dry skin cells. The Jojoba beads are round so they don’t scratch like some other exfoliants can, like those with nutshells. This blend also includes B5, C, and E that calms and soothes the skin.
My husband loved this one the best of the two face scrubs sent to review. He thought it had a soothing, cool feel to it and cleaned well.
Somersets Maximum Glide Shaving Gel Original is soap free and contains menthol to leave skin cool and refreshed. It also contains salicylic acid to help prevent razor bumps and blemishes.
My husband said it holds up to the claim of not foaming and had a refreshing, cooling feel. It did bother the sensitive areas he has on the neck area to a lesser degree like a lot of other gels he has tried in the past.
Somersets Maximum Glide Shaving Gel Extra Sensitive is specially formulated for sensitive skin. It has hyaluronic acid to moisturize the skin and essential oil to help prevent irritation.
My husband liked how the razor glided on this product. It kept his sensitive neck area calm.
Somersets Replenishing Moisturiser After-Shave contains a rejuvenating combination of shea butter, bisabolol and hyaluronic acid to re-hydrate the skin after shaving and help protect the skin from drying out.
My husband thought this worked well and it didn’t burn his skin.
Somersets Refreshing Face Wash Pre-Shave contains witch hazel and salicylic acid to clear away dirt and excess oil from the skin that can lead to blemishes or black heads.
My husband thought this did a good job cleaning. He was a little more intrigued by the face scrub. He felt this product did a good job cleaning, but the face scrub had more of a dramatic effect with the Jojoba beads.
Somersets Razor Repair Face Balm After-Shave has Chilean rosehip seed oil, aloe vera, and chamomile to create a balm that works to heal the skin and sooth razor burn after shaving. It also contains glycerin that provides extra moisture.
My spouse thought this product was light weight and soothing. It definitely helped with skin irritation from the razor. He said it had a pleasant scent and probably one of the best products he has used to help with razor burn.
Somersets Extra Sensitive Shaving Oil is designed for the man with sensitive skin. It has Rose hip seed oil and evening primrose oil to moisturize and soothe the skin.
My husband liked this product for daily shaves where there was light stubble. He said the instructions were to use 3-4 drops, but with his coarse hair, he used 6 drops on average. He had not used an oil before so it took a bit to get used to the light feeling of this oil versus a gel or cream, but said it was great to use.
Overall, my husband was pleasantly surprised by Somersets Grooming for Men products. He was amazed that none of Somersets Gooming for Men products plugged his razor. He tried the products with a three blade and also with a five blade razor. For his sensitive skin and coarse hair, the three blade razor with these products worked the best for him.
His personal favorites were: Somersets Purifying Pre-Shave Face Scrub, the Extra Sensitive Shaving Oil, and After-Shave Razor Repair Face Balm. I like seeing his clean, un-irritated skin, and the nice subtle scent from Somersets products. Somersets does make a Extra Sensitive Shaving Oil and Extra Delicate Shaving Oil for women too.
Somersets Grooming for Men products range in price from $6.99 – $14.99. Products are available online at www.drugstore.com and www.somersetsusa.com as well as select food/drug stores nationwide. To learn more about Somersets, please visit their website, or check them out on Facebook, and Twitter.
