Michael Buble – To Be Loved Review

michael bubleI recently reviewed the new album of To Be Loved by Michael Buble′.  If you are looking for easy listening or enjoy crooners to the likes of Frank Sinatra or Elvis Presley, this album is for you.

Buble′ was introduced to Ella Fitzgerald, the Mills Brothers, Frank Sinatra, and others by his grandfather when he was younger to influence his passion of swing.  Michael won the Canadian Youth Talent Search as a teen, released many independent albums, and traveled across the U.S. as part of a revue called Swing before signing his first major recording contract.

“Do not think I take my success these last ten years for granted. I was anything but an overnight sensation, which inspires me to deliver big time for my fans—maybe even make some new ones this time out.” says Bublé. “I labored over every song, every note and every arrangement because I can’t resist trying to make each record better than my last one.”

This handsome Canadian singer shares his renditions of Grammy winner covering songs by Frank Sinatra, the Bee Gees, Jackson 5, Elvis Presley, Van Morrison, and more in To Be Loved.  There are also four original songs co-written by Michael in this release.

My personal favorites from To Be Loved are: “You Make Me Feels So Young”, “It’s a Beautiful Day”, “Close Your Eyes” and  “You’ve Got a Friend in Me”.  I am less of a fan of his duet with Reese Witherspoon in “Something Stupid”.  I prefer her acting ability over her ability to sing.  This collection is a little bit different from Buble’s past releases with a jazz standard since this collection seems like jazz inspired pop songs, which isn’t a bad thing, just different from his other titles.

“I want to take you on a wonderful journey about love—all different kinds of love,” Michael says. “The album swings big time: it rocks, it’s soulful, it’s happy, sometimes a little sad. It’s romantic, it’s yummy, and it’s heartfelt.”

These are good times for the singer, who is soon to be a first-time dad. “I wrote Close Your Eyes about my wife and about the power of all the women in my life—my sisters, my mom, my grandma and all women in general. Let’s face it, where would we be without them? I Got It Easy, another original, is basically a song where I count my blessings and is a reminder to me and everyone to appreciate all the good parts of life. I’m a very lucky guy and I never want to forget it.
