Review: I think animal rescue is such an important subject. I worked as a veterinary technician for eight years in a mixed animal practice. My fellow staff and I did our best to help pet owners consider the option of adopting a rescue. There are so many loving pets in need of homes.
JJ The American Street Dog and How He Came to Live In Our House works to inform both children and adults about animal rescue. It’s a great option to consider when looking to add a four legged member to the family. Diane Rose-Solomon, a Certified Humane Education Specialist and author JJ The American Street Dog, has had a passion for rescue since she adopted her first homeless dog 18 years ago.
JJ The American Street Dog is recommended for children ages five to nine. My four-year-old enjoyed hearing about the story of JJ too. Both of my girls have occasionally questioned when we would be getting another dog. We lost our two boxers three years ago, almost exactly six months apart. They were both rescues. Maya, the six-year-old girl in the story, has wanted a dog for quite some time. Her uncle comes across a homeless puppy, JJ, when out playing soccer. He can not keep the puppy in his apartment building and so he asks if he can stay with Maya and her family while he works on finding JJ a new home. After much thought and discussion, JJ finds a loving home and Maya gets the friend she has longed for.
JJ The American Street Dog is a Mom’s Choice Award Winner. It discusses an important topic to consider when searching for a family pet, adopting a rescue. It’s a must for any pet lover. The author, Ms. Rose-Solomon will developing a series based on JJ. The topics of the next four books are: basic training, introducing a baby to a home that has a dog, the importance of service and therapy dogs, and prejudice against certain breeds.
A percentage of book sale profits will benefit animal rescue organizations.
