My oldest has a habit of turning up the volume when she uses headphones to watch movies off her DVD player while in our minivan. Unfortunately, she sits in the back row so I can’t quickly respond and always notice if they are too loud.
I did not realize there was volume limited headphones for kids until recently with a review. I received Kidz Gear wired headphones for kids. They are the first adult-featured stereo headphones for kids. Kidz Gear headphones are volume limited for safety and feature KidzControl, which allows a maximum volume of 80-90 dB. They are designed for ages 2 and older.
I received a pair of Kidz Gear wired headphones for kids in blue, a headphone carry bag to protect and store this product, and also a 3.5 mm stereo headphone splitter cable for this review. For this review, I will highlight the features and share my opinions. I do not have a sound level meter to check the sound volume (dB). To give you an idea of dB, a whisper is 30 dB, a normal conversation is 60 dB, an alarm clock at 80 dB, and a lawn mower or even a noisy toy is an example of 90 dB per Noise Help. I saw varying times on exposure per 24 hour period creating hearing loss/damage in children. OSHA’s Daily Permissable level for ADULTS is 8 hours per day at 90 dB.
There is a volume control on the cord that has a clip on the back side for your child to attach the PC headphones to their clothing. A plastic turn knob is featured on the side to adjust the volume level.

I was impressed by the sound quality of these headphones by Kidz Gear, very crisp and clear. I had purchased other headphones in the past that were labeled for kids and found they had a tendency to not always stay put. This pair for review nicely adjusts to fit the child and has a generous amount of padding to cup the child’s ear for comfort and helping to facilitate the great sound quality. My oldest daughter needed a pair of headphones for her computer class in kindergarten this year. I wish I would have found this brand instead of picking up a pair for around the same price and less quality at Target last fall.
I did try the headphones on myself and listened to a CD in order to evaluate how they felt and they were comfy. I put the volume level to the max and then had my middle child (age 4) try them on. I could hear the sound playing softly when I was standing next to her as she was wearing the headphones. My 4 and 6-year-old love how they feel.
KidzControl Volume Limit Headphones for Kids by Kidz Gear come in a variety of colors. They are available in pink, blue, orange, green, and purple. The suggested retail is $19.99 each.
Kidz Gear also sells an optional 3.5 mm stereo headphone splitter cable with a suggested retail price of $9.99 ($5.99 online). This is a lifesaver if you have two children who want to be plugged into the same device. There is also a headphone carry bag to store and carry your headphones for $5.99. This bag is simply not just a nylon bag. It has some padding to actually protect the headphones.
