Stay Hydrated For Halloween-HINT Water Review

October 22, 2011 by Karen

Kara Goldin, a mother of four from San Francisco, wanted to create a refreshing alternative to sodas, juices, and other sweet drinks that would be satisfying and taste great for her children.  2004, she started cutting up fruit and adding it to drinking water.  Popularity spread through the neighborhood and HINT was successfully launched as a business in 2004.  The slogan for HINT is “Drink Water, Not Sugar”.  Current flavors are:  cucumber, raspberry-lime, blackberry, honeydew-hibiscus, mango-grapefruit, pomegranate-tangerine, watermelon, lime, strawberry-kiwi, and pear.

I was recently given the opportunity to try HINT in watermelon, raspberry-lemon, pomegranate-tangerine, mango-grapefruit, and blackberry.  I try to drink as much water as I can during the day, but plain water can sometimes become boring, in my opinion.  I will sometimes try to up the flavor with a lemon slice at home, but there are times when I forget to purchase them and the shelf-life when cut up is not that long in the fridge.

I thought HINT was refreshing and I did not miss the sugary taste of other beverages.  The bottles are 16 oz., vegan, gluten-free, have no MSG, or preservatives.  It is a product of the USA 🙂  HINT does not contain calories, fat, sodium, or carbs.  I did notice a slight aftertaste of the fruit after drinking the product, but it was pleasant, not distasteful like artificial sweeteners.

The flavor of HINT is mild so if you are used to some vitamin waters, such as SoBe, you may be a bit disappointed at first, but once you get used to the flavor without the sweetener and “re-train” your taste buds, you should hopefully find HINT to be satisfying without the sugar or artificial sweetener.

Out of the samples I was given, blackberry was my favorite for a slightly more noticeable flavor, but all were good.  The only thing that I wish was different would be with the ingredients listed on label.  I am not sure what “other natural flavors” is for ingredients.

With Halloween coming up and all the candy and sugary drinks available in abundance during this holiday, HINT becomes a nice alternative to the drinks we as parents may grab for ourselves and children.  If your child likes the flavor of juice, but do not seem to be drinking enough water, I encourage you to try HINT.  It is an all-natural essence water that makes it simple to stay hydrated when busy getting ready to go trick-or-treating, hosting or attending a holiday party, or maybe a healthy handout for some to dispense to visiting witches and ghosts.  HINT may make a great “trick” to get your friends and family in the habit of drinking more water this Halloween.

Hint is nationally available at Whole Foods and Starbucks for $1.79 each.  Amazon.com (subscribe and save giving best price) also carries HINT.  You can check on HINT’s page for a location near you.

I was reading online, for those of you who love carbonated beverages; HINT unveiled HINT Fizz late this summer that is to be sold exclusively with the Fresh Market chain stores and at Whole Foods in areas that is does not conflict with Fresh Market.  The carbonated HINT will be packaged in a 12 oz. glass bottle.  Start to look for it on shelves this fall.

I received samples of HINT Water for review purposes.  I received no monetary compensation and the words and feelings expressed for this review are my own.
