Review: Dr. Drip Coffee

November 10, 2011 by Karen

I recently had the opportunity to try Dr. Drip Coffee, a five pack in “The Double Daily Remedy”.  Dr. Drip Coffee is made by the Gordon Grade Coffee Company that began with a father and son team, Mark and Jesse Gordon.

About Dr. Drip:

With Dr. Drip you can ditch the fancy equipment but still be your own barista. However you like to doctor up your coffee – skim, soy, cream, black… one lump or two—Dr. Drip gives you the freedom and flexibility to brew wherever you are.
With convenience and portability top of mind, Dr. Drip practices the classic drip brewing method to brew one perfect cup at a time – in the kitchen or at the campsite. It couldn’t be simpler – perch the good Doctor atop your mug-in-waiting and pour hot water over the grounds and through the filter to unlock the alluring aroma and scintillating taste of freshly roasted Arabica beans.
Each package contains all natural, fair-trade and organically grown coffee specially selected from some of the world’s best growing regions. Artisan Roasters escort the beans through the roasting process, crafting rich, flavorful blends before the beans go on to receive a precision grind. Afterwards, the grounds are rapidly vacuum-sealed to preserve the height of freshness.
While Dr. Drip coffee does provide instant gratification, it bears no relation to “instant” coffee. Dr. Drip brews a rich, delicious cup of coffee available anytime, anywhere, but certainly not at any expense. Speaking of, you won’t find our product in plastic pods lingering in a landfill for years to come—Dr. Drip packaging, filters and coffee are recyclable, compostable and biodegradable, leaving no negative footprint behind.
Dr. Drip is currently prescribing these four 100% Arabica bean blends:
  • The Organic Tonic: A 100% USDA Certified organic blend
  • The Ultimate Pick Me-Up: A dark roasted Sumatra blend for the truly bold and brazen.
  • The Double Daily Remedy: Our premium signature blend is the answer to all that ails you.
  • The Decaf Energizer: Ain’t no misnomer and resounding proof that there’s more to love than just the caffeine buzz.

Review:

Here are some photos of me preparing “The Double Daily Remedy”:

It has a perforated tab/cut to tear off the top of the single cup drip pack.  You want to make sure you use this so you don’t damage the packaging underneath.

Tear along the dotted line and be careful not to tip the packaging.  The grounds will fall out if you do not hold upright.

Press in at the sides to then perch the filter and grounds on top of your cup.

My Dr. Drip filter is in place.

Pour hot water over coffee grounds.  You must do this slowly.  Don’t get sidetracked or you will have a mess on your hands!

Letting it drip through the filter.  I just added water until it nearly topped my cup.  Add water as you feel needed to reach your desired taste/strength.

Still dripping…
Wah lah!  Ready to enjoy!

This is a neat concept.  You can brew a single cup without wasting part of a pot of coffee if enjoying by yourself.  Mr. Coffee is very portable so you can enjoy while curled up reading a book at home, take it on a trip to have in your hotel room, or take with camping.

I thought the taste was right for me with adding enough water to fill my coffee cup, but you may want to play with the amount of water for your own desired taste.  With the classic drip brewing method, it takes a little more time than instant, but is worth the wait. Suggested retail is $8.99 for 5 single cup drip packs or there is a 3 pack multipack (15 single cup drip packs) that retails for $19.99.  For more information, please visit Dr. Drip Coffee.

Disclosure:  I received a box of Dr. Drip Coffee 5 single cup drip packs for this review.  The thoughts and feelings expressed are my own.
