Review: BloodSTOP: Controls Bleeding Fast

May 10, 2012 by Karen

I was recently introduced to BloodSTOP, which is to quickly control bleeding caused by minor wounds.  My family has had it’s share of bumps, bruises, and wounds in the past.  Our routine is usually to clean, apply topical antibiotic, and then dress with a Band-Aid.

With Band-Aids or even a dressing made with gauze to minor wounds, there can be pain and irritation when removing or repositioning the product.  Sometimes the clot can also become disturbed.  BloodSTOP is non-irritating and can be removed easily with just water!

BloodSTOP is designed to rapidly stop bleeding and protect wounds.   It adheres to the skin’s surface and creates pressure to seal and protect the wound while it stops the bleeding.   BloodSTOP was originally created for surgical wound care and for this application is BloodSTOP iX.

BloodSTOP looks like gauze, but is made of natural 100% cotton cellulose.  When exposed to blood or other bodily fluids, it quickly absorbs them, transforms into a gel to seal the wound, and creates a transparent and protective layer.  It actively works to stop the bleeding and helps with the process of healing.

BloodSTOP has the following features:

  • Easy to use
  • Acts in less than a minute
  • No animal-derived material
  • Active bleeding control over traditional gauze
  • Painless upon application and removal
  • Water soluble for easy removal without disruption to wound surface
  • Adheres to the wound without the discomfort of adhesives
  • Easy to cut, pack or layer to fit the wound
  • Safe for all age groups
  • Single use sterile packaging, several sizes
  • Biodegradable
During this review period, I had one boo-boo where my oldest daughter was running with flip flops on and fell on our gravel driveway.  Unfortunately for review purposes, the bleeding had ceased by the time we had gotten back to the house.  Other than that, no wounds to report in my family lately.  I was sent a few small pieces of BloodSTOP to test and try in just water.

I put a small amount of water in a glass dish.  I tried to dip half of the sample material in the water, but it was difficult to master this amount and take the photograph so it almost became entirely wet.  Oops!

Here you can see how the water is causing the sample material to change form.

I then placed the material on my inner forearm.  It became somewhat gel-like in appearance.

I then had my daughter try to remove the material from my forearm.  It was easily and painlessly removed.  Any BloodSTOP left behind came off effortlessly by running my arm under water from the faucet.

When used for a wound care, simply rinse under water or saline to remove, wipe gently if needed.  Do not pull away or it may disturb the wound.  BloodSTOP can be left on as long as necessary to stop the bleeding

I think BloodSTOP is great to have around as part of a first aid kit or just in the medicine cabinet.  It has a shelf life of approximately five years when properly stored.   It is even recommended as an application for nosebleeds.  For serious wounds, a medical professional should be consulted.
BloodSTOP can be found in drug stores, online, or by mail order.  I like Amazon and it can be found here.  It is sold as a box of 10 sterile packets (8 – 1″x1″ squares and 2 – 2″x2″ squares).  Shipping is free for Amazon Prime and is currently $14.97.

Disclosure:  I received samples of BloodSTOP for this review.  The thoughts and feelings expressed are my own.  No other compensation was received to produce this review.
