Oscillococcinum: Homeopathic Medicine for Flu Review

Oscillo by Boiron: visit www.oscillo.com

My local news has gotten a bit glum lately in stating casualties from the flu.  The CDC currently states that influenza (flu) activity remained elevated in the U.S., but may be decreasing in some areas. (http://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/).

Boiron, the world leader in homeopathic medicines, manufactures Oscillococcinum, which is to reduce the duration and severity of flu symptoms.  Boiron got its start in 1932 by twin brothers, Jean and Henri Boiron, who were both pharmacists in France.  The company became established in the USA in 1983.

I was sent Boiron’s product, Oscillococcinum (Oscillo for short), for this review.  Oscillococcinum is to temporarily relieve flu-like symptoms such as fatigue, headache, body aches, chills, and fever.  It works best if taken with the first sign of flu-like symptoms.

There are no side effects, like drowsiness, no risk of overdose, and no drug interactions to worry about with Oscillo.  You can still take your regular prescription medications or a fever reducer yet if you need to while taking Oscillococcinum.  It is safe for those two years of age and older.  There is also Oscillococcinum Children’s, which is still for those two years and above.  If pregnant or breast-feeding, you should speak to your health professional before using.

Ths Oscillococcinum package contains six doses. Each small tube like the one pictured above is one dose.  There are small, sweet-tasting pellets that just melt in your mouth included in these tubes.  The active ingredient is Anas barbariae hepatis et cordis extractum 200CK HPUS (HPUS indicates that the active ingredients are officially included in the Homeopathic Pharmacopceia of the United States). Adults and those two and above are to dissolve all of the pellets from one tube orally every six hours, up to three times a day.  The package with six doses has a suggested retail of $10.99.

Thankfully my family has dealt with illnesses, but not what I would label the flu (knocking on wood) so far this season.  I have used Boiron’s ColdCalm to shorten the length of colds with my family in the past and feel it has been useful for us, also the natural Chestal to help relieve coughs.  Boiron and their line of products have a positive reputation with my family due to their past track record with us.

To learn more about Oscillo, please check out www.oscillo.com, Facebook, and Twitter.  You can visit http://www.boironusa.com/coupons/ to receive a $1 off coupon for Boiron Cold, Flu, and Cough products for children.   To learn more about Boiron and their full line of products, visit www.boironusa.com or https://www.facebook.com/BoironUSA.

Disclosure:  I received this product as a blogger review opportunity with www.Naturallysavvy.com.  The thoughts and feelings expressed are my own.  No other compensation was received for this review.
