Blobby’s Pizza Game

My family and I recently sat down to try our math skills with Blobby’s Pizza. This game is made by Semper Smart Games and is recommended for persons age 8 and above. 2-6 players can play and the game time for Blobby’s Pizza is listed as 30-40 minutes.

Once we got a hang of what the rules and instructions were to the game, it reminded us just a little of Skip-Bo. There are piles you put down in front of you called the ‘table’. Your hand of cards is termed your ‘plate’.

Most of the cards in the deck have slices of pizza with fractions, decimals, and percentages listed on them plus there are other cards with monsters that like to eat pizza in this game. The monsters also have fractions that serve as sort of the maximum number of slices or fraction/percentage of the pizza they can take from an opponent when played. You want to get 12 slices to complete a particular flavor of pizza.

I think Blobby’s Pizza is rather unique in concept. My youngest is now 11 and he did a great job making pizzas. I ended our first game with only two supreme pizzas, which was put to shame by all my other family members who played.

Along with simply counting the pizzas you make, there are also different dollar values to the pizzas created at the end. A cheese pizza does not total out as much as a supreme pizza. For a more advanced version, there are also tax and tip cards that can be added in.

Blobby’s Pizza is a great way to try and make learning fractions fun. I think my kids had a great time with being competitive and taking on a bit of a refresher when considering fractions. It did definitely take the 30-40 minutes of play time, maybe even a bit more initially with making sure we all understood what was stated in the instructions for game play.

Below is a video that does a nice explanation of the game and some of the basics in play with Blobby’s Pizza. This game can be found at retailers nationwide and has a suggested retail price of $22.00.
