Title: Beyond Piggy Banks and Lemonade Stands: How to Teach Young Kids About Finance
Author: Liz Frazier
Published: September 2019
With having children of my own, I try to give them some practical applications to understand finances and they do get exposure to recognizing money and story problems that involve money at school, but am I doing enough? With pursuing a degree to become a FACS teacher, I thought this book would possibly give me some real-life financial applications that I maybe hadn’t already thought of too.
The author of Beyond Piggyg Banks and Lemonade Stands, Liz Frazier is a certified financial planner. Her easy-to-follow guide helps provide ways to teach your children the financial basics and also provides fun activities to complete with them. This title starts out with understanding the difference between needs and wants and then moves onto the basics of spending and saving. This is to give children the knowledge to hopefully make sound financial decisions as they enter adulthood.
This book includes an awesome guide to age-appropriate information for young children (K-5th grade). I like that if you don’t feel comfortable with certain financial topics, this book is simplified for both you and your children to understand so you can also become more financially savvy too. With becoming a society where transactions are being done more and more electronically, the author points out that it is easier to understand money with cash. I strongly agree with this. Additional resources for financial topics are also included in the chapters, like games, online sites, and books to explore topics further.
This book is great for parents! It’s available on Amazon, other online retailers, and book stores nationwide.
