Unfortunately, I did not learn about Grand-Daddy Day Care until receiving the invitation to screen this film recently. It became available on DVD and today from Universal Home Pictures and Revolution Studios.
Frank Collins is a writer who has hit a brick wall with finishing his latest novel. Taxes on his family’s home have come due plus the mortgage and there is a shortage of funds. To top things off, his wife’s father, Eduardo, has been having bouts of memory loss and should not live on his own
With Frank needing to stay in the home to take care of Eduardo and with hoping to get past his writer’s block, he needs something to support his family from home. After Eduardo has some of his friends over, Frank comes up with the idea to care for a small group of senior citizens in his home. Frank quickly learns that he is taking on more than he expected. Soon after gathering a group of clients, human services starts to come knocking at his door and surprisingly humor ensues as Frank tries to get his business up and running.
Grand-Daddy Day Care is great for fairly clean comedy (a scene reference to drugs) and the importance of friends and family shines in this family. It is rated PG-13 and has a run time of 1 hr. 36 minutes.
