My three children all seem to be intrigued by magic. I guess big kids, can be too, right? For some kid-friendly magical fun, we recently tried out The Amazing Zhus™ through BSM Media. They are a new collection of magic pets from Cepia, LLLC, the master toymakers behind ZhuZhu Pets® and The Happy’s™.
We received the following:
- One Amazing Zhus™ Magician Pet.
- One Amazing Zhus™ High Dive
- One Amazing Zhus™ Magician Shell Game
There are two pets in the Magic Circle. They are The Great Zhu™ and Madame Zhu™. We received the latter of the two. These pets can read cards, follow a wand, make over 200+ sounds, and do other stunts that are sold separately. Batteries are included. These two pets come with a magic wand and three magician cards. The three cards that Madame Zhus™ came with allow her to sing, dance, and run promptly in the other direction when she sees a cat. She can also read the cards from the other side, which just have a similar logo on them so it is like she can truly read cards. When the magic want is on, the magician pet will follow it around the room. The wand can be up to 6-7 feet away and still work.
Additional magician cards are sold separately. Madame Zhus™ with the three cards and wand retail at Walmart for $29.97 and is recommended for children 4 and up.The Amazing Zhus™ High Dive is sold separately. It comes with one magician card and works with The Amazing Zhus™ Stunt Pet and Magician Pet.Here is what it looks like in the box so there is some assembly required. Instructions are included, but it is pretty simple to figure out where the pieces go together. A stunt ball is included for the pet to be locked onto and then it travels on the rail of the high dive. The included card can be read for the pet to travel down the high rise or by simply pressing the explore button on the back of the pet. There seems to be a little more drama with the magic pet when reading the card versus pressing button.
This accessory is also recommended for children 4+ and retails for $19.97. My seven-year-old could fasten and release the pet from the stunt ball, but my five and three-year-old needed assistance.
We also received Amazing Zhus™ Shell Game. It comes with one pea and three shells. The pea has an on/off switch and batteries are included. The game did not seem to work so we had to switch the batteries out right away, which are 3 LR 44 button batteries. To play, the pea is turned on and placed under one of the three shells. The shells should be shuffled on a flat surface so the pea stays under the shell. It is important to arrange the shells about 6-7 inches apart and 12″ in front of the magician. If the shells are left too close together, the pet can not detect the pea and run around the correct shell when guessing where the pea is located.
Only magician pets can perform this game. This accessory game retails for $9.99 and has the same recommended age as the other pieces in The Amazing Zhus™ collection.Overall, my three kids all enjoy The Amazing Zhus™. It requires a bit of storage space and periodically replacing batteries, but allows them to practice fun magic and provides lots of enjoyment without screen time. The equipment and pets are made of plastic, but seem fairly durable. To learn more about The Amazing Zhus™, please visit theamazingzhus.com.
