Schwan’s Home Service Test Drive

October 13, 2014 by Karen

A while ago, I had the opportunity to share a couple of discount codes for Schwan’s.  In return for that post, I received $25 toward Schwan’s products and as a new customer, I was able to tack on another discount code for $10 off.

I try to make as much as I can from scratch, but sometimes I am behind on time to make a wholesome meal and I think it’s great to try new things.  The following products were delivered to me in an order that totaled $52.75 before discounts were applied.

White Meat Chicken Egg Rolls with Sweet and Sour Sauce $10.29IMG_2122This product includes 12 egg rolls and 12 sweet and sour sauce packets.  They can be prepared in the microwave, oven or deep-fried.IMG_2124I elected to bake them in the oven.IMG_2125Along with the egg rolls, I fixed the Five Grain Rice Pilaf.

Five Grain Rice Pilaf $5.99IMG_2123This blend contains whole grain brown rice, basmati rice, red jasmine rice, black barley, wild rice, carrots, onions, and a light seasoning.
IMG_2126 To prepare, a small amount of butter should be melted in a skillet.  Then the rice blend and water are to be added.  The cover should be on and an entire bag takes 12-13 minutes to cook.IMG_2129The chicken egg rolls were crispy with a delicious blend of chicken, carrots, and cabbage.  The sweet and sour sauce was a little bit different from what I have had before and provided a little heat.  The appearance was different too.  I am used to seeing this sticky cherry red colored sauce at restaurants I’ve been to.  Schwan’s sauce has a variety of color and isn’t so sticky.  The rice blend was tender and lightly flavored.

Pork Egg Rolls with Sweet and Sour Sauce $10.29
IMG_2424Can you see kind of theme?  The nearest Chinese joint is about half an hour away so these products were a treat.  I tried making egg rolls once and thought they were good, but took a fair amount of work.

The prep options are the same as the chicken egg rolls.  I tried these pork egg rolls in the deep fryer.IMG_2426

Beer Battered Alaska Cod $15.49IMG_2502These cod fillets can be prepared in the oven and be to your table in about 15 minutes.IMG_2505They were crisp, yet had a tender interior.IMG_2503

Shrimp Spring Rolls with Thai Sweet Chili Sauce $10.69IMG_2619This product contains 8 spring rolls and 2 sauce packets that are to be prepared in the oven.IMG_2622Yum!   Little shrimp, onions, cabbage, carrots, crisp water chestnuts, tender rice noodles, and oyster sauce wrapped in a flaky rice paper.  The Thai Sweet Chili Sauce brought a wonderful melody of heat and sweetness.IMG_2624I thought all of the products from Schwan’s Home Service were easy to prepare and I had no fails.  Each product prepares enough for about 4-6 servings so it worked well for our family of five.

My husband and I liked the sauces.  My children thought they were a little spicy for them, but still enjoyed the rolls without dipping.  To learn more about Schwan’s and their enormous assortment of products, please visit Schwans.com.
