I had heard quite a while ago about the nutritional benefits of flaxseed, but I did not realize until receiving samples of Linwoods that their were nutritional blends with flaxseed and other nutrient dense foods, like shelled hemp and hemp oil.
The Linwoods brand is based in Northern Ireland and founded in 1985. It is a family owned company that built a bakery in 1996 and also provides fresh dairy to over 2000 stores daily in Ireland. In 2003, Linwoods began to create and market flaxseed and other super food combinations. All ingredients are organic and natural. They are high in essential fatty acids that are important for heart and brain function, protein for the growth and repair of muscles and skin, and vitamins such as complex B, D and E. These products also provide important minerals for optimal health – calcium, iron, selenium, magnesium, and zinc.
- Linwoods potent dietary fiber, protein, and good-for-you polyunsaturated fat levels help maintain a healthy body weight and sustain normal blood sugar levels while curbing hunger pangs. Additionally, a 2010 study in The Journal of Nutrition suggests that Flaxseed may help reduce belly fat. The reason is flax’s potent nutrients: flaxseed contains the highest plant-based levels of omega-3s and phytoestrogens called lignans than any other food. This summer, maintain your healthy weight with a healthy and satisfying diet featuring Linwoods.
- Linwoods heart healthy superfoods are low in saturated fat; contain no cholesterol and high in omega-3’s and fiber which all may help prevent high blood cholesterol. Today, heart disease is a leading health concern in America and affects people of all ages and backgrounds.[1] Dr. Frank Sacks, Professor of Cardiovascular Disease Prevention, Department of Nutrition, Harvard School of Public Health shares, “We need omega-3 fatty acids for numerous normal body functions, such as controlling blood clotting and building cell membranes in the brain, and since our bodies cannot make omega-3 fats, we must get them through food. Omega-3 fatty acids are also associated with many health benefits, including protection against heart disease and possibly stroke.”[2]
- Omega-3’s to promote maximum brain activity, and antioxidants to rid the body of free radicals and keep bodily systems working efficiently. Dr. Fernando Gómez-Pinilla, a UCLA professor of neurosurgery and physiological science who has spent years studying the effects of food, exercise and sleep on the brain shares that, “Omega-3 fatty acids support synaptic plasticity and seem to positively affect the expression of several molecules related to learning and memory that are found on synapses,” Gómez-Pinilla said. “Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for normal brain function.”[3]

The mixes do not contain additives or preservatives. I think it is somewhat unique that each super food combination is made of only the ingredients listed in the name of the product. They are also GMO free, Gluten free, and safe for a vegan diet.

I was sent samples of Linwoods Shelled Hemp, Flaxseed, Almonds, brazil Nuts, Walnuts and Q10, and then lastly Flaxseed and Goji Berries. It’s very easy to add these products to yogurt or on top of a salad. I also liked adding it to homemade bread. Please note that the packaging does state that the products are packed in a plant where sesame seeds and nuts are handled so sorry for those of you with nut allergies.
Linwoods has allowed me to share this recipe book featuring their products. I was unfamiliar with the term of dessert spoon for measurement. It is equal to approximately 2 teaspoons.
